Emina is a Law, Societies and Justice Major at the University of Washington and is currently working at Columbia Legal Services investigating jail deaths in Washington. She is also a volunteer with King County Sexual Assault Resource Center as a CourtWatch volunteer and is working on volunteering with the University Beyond Bars at the Monroe Correctional Facility. She is now in working on her Honors Thesis examining reconciliation and religion in post-genocide Bosnia.

Favorite travel destination: I came to the US as a refugee from Bosnia, so every chance I get to go back and see my home country and family is my favorite time. Bosnia’s geography from its mountains with old Ottoman castles that still stand on them to the breathtaking Mediterranean seaside are reasons I love to go there. My favorite part of going home is sitting outside my grandma’s house and watching the sunrise while drinking coffee with her.

How you relax and what you enjoy doing: One of my favorite things to do is to yelp new restaurants and try different foods. I am also president of Poet to the People at UW so writing poetry and performing spoken word helps me relax and share my thoughts. I enjoy helping foster a safe space for others to also do this!
